Pongiste
Short Film
Details
Directed by Hugh Braselton
Mark Hawthorne (Mike Brune) has anger management issues and is advised
by a quack therapist to take up the gentlemanly art of ping pong as an
antidote to his foul temper. Hawthorne turns out to be a whiz with the
paddles and is soon defeating every ponger around in this deliriously
silly table tennis Rocky with an oddball twist. With a nod to
Wes Anderson and Hal Ashby's deadpan visuals and nerd-hip ambiance,
Hugh Braselton's madcap, visually stunning comedy crams a fistful of
film influences and an idiosyncratic personal style into its terse 14
minutes.
